you are probably aware of

Preferences → General → Automation → Thinning factor

are you?

Not sure the thinning is only done when writing automation, thought.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. As long as it does not lower down the
resolution while recording. High resolution while recording, then
subsequent optimization would be the best. I will certainly write some
automation soon, I'll see.
